About Hariprasad Kowtha
Hariprasad Kowtha is one of the few South Asian men teaching yoga in Philadelphia. He grew up closely tied to the South Indian culture, speaking Telugu at home, singing classical music forms and performing Bharatanatyam. He first learned hatha yoga at the age of ten and practiced diligently with his father. Hariprasad uses yoga as a form of resistance and he is committed to teaching yoga to people who may not otherwise have access to the ancient art. He teaches in homeless shelters, in juvenile justice facilities and in economically depressed neighborhoods. In his classes, he balances a strong physical flow with the sweetness of deep rest and stitches them together with a strong breath focus.
